  • The Vail 36 is a vent-free appliance that requires no venting, making it very flexible in placement within the home. However, it must not be installed in a confined space less than 50 cubic feet, and installation may be prohibited in certain jurisdictions — for example, California bans vent-free appliances entirely, and Massachusetts does not allow them in bedrooms or bathrooms, so buyers must verify local codes before purchasing.

  • A log set is not included with the Empire Vail 36 Premium and must be purchased separately to complete the installation. Buyers can choose from two options: a Ceramic Fiber log set or a Refractory log set, both of which are hand-painted for realism and detail.

  • A blower is not included with the standard Vail 36 but can be added as an optional accessory — Empire recommends the FBB4 Variable Speed Blower with Temperature Switch for this model. Glass doors cannot be added to this fireplace, as vent-free appliances must remain fully open to the living space for safe operation.
